Printers can be compared by:

- speed at which they print

- Type of processor
- Number of processors
- Speed of processor
- amount of cache memory on the processor
What are the difference between main memory and backing storage?
- Main memory is used for storing data and programs when they are being used.
- Backing storage is used for saving programs and data when the computer is turned off.
What are the differences between RAM and ROM?
RAM:
-can be edited and changed
-used to store programs and data whilst the computer is turned on
ROM:
- holds data permanently
-Data that is in ROM cannot be changed, it can only be read
-ROM is used to store the bootstrap loader
What is the purpose of Cache memory and how can it improve system performance?
- Cache is used to store frequently used or recently used instructions and information
- Cache memory is faster memory as well as being closer to (or part of) the processor
