failure of the testicle to descend into the scrotal sac. this is the most common congenital male reproductive abnormality seen in 1% of male infants.
what is the prognosis of cryptorchidism?
most resolve spontaneously by the age of 2.
what are the complications of cryptorchidism
testicular atrophy with infertility and increased risk of seminoma
what is orchitis
inflammation of the testicle
what are the causes of orchitis in younger patients?
chlamydia and gonorrhea
what are the causes of orchitis in older patients?
e. coli and pseudomonas
what are the causes of orchitis in teen patients?
mumps is a cause.
testicular torsion is what?
twisting of the spermatochord leading to obstruction of the thin walled veins and thus hemorrhagic infarction of the testicle.
what is the most common cause of torsion?
congenital failure to attach to the scrotal sac.
how does torsion present?
testicular pain and lack of cremasteric reflex
varicocele is what and how does it present?
dilation of the spermatic vein due to impaired drainage, presents as a bag of worms. associated with left sided renal carcinoma. seen in a large percentage of infertile males
which side is varicocele typically oN?
the left side.
hyrdocele
fluid collection in the tunica vaginalis. associated with incomplete closure of the processes vaginalis leading to accumulation with the peritoneum.
how can we distinguish the hydrocele?
transillumination of the scrotal sac
