Test2, Replication and Transcription Flashcards

Memorize the drugs pertinent to inhibition of replication, transcription, and translational (gene expression) processes

1
Q

What is Psoralen?

A

Upon activation by UV radiation, intercalates across strands of DNA,(2, 2+2 cycloadditions) linking thymines in 5’TpA sequences. Effect: Arrests DNA replication

Q

What is Rifampin

A

Semisynthetic drug derived from a compound isolated from A. rifamycinica. Primarily used in treatment of tuberculosis. Effect: Block prokaryotic transcription after 2-3 ribonucleotides. Binds near bacterial RNAP active site.
