Q

Australian aborigines

A

British colonisers arrived thousands of years after them; between 1700 and 1920 the population of aborigines had dropped by around 90%; most deaths were caused by diseases Europeans had brought to Australia and the taking over of land for farms and settlements; British farming methods obstructed the traditional way of life and led to more violence; the introduction of British farm animals like sheep destroyed food sources and hunting grounds; many aborigines went to live in towns to try and make a living but they suffered discrimination and abuse.

Zanzibar was important for trade between Africa, India and the Middle East. There was also a large slave trade business.Britain started trading with Sultan Abu in 1841 but the relationship did not remain positive because of the slave trade.Britain had abolished slavery in 1807 in 1873 they finally managed to persuade the Sultan to ban slavery. However, the slave trade managed to find other routes. In 1890, Britain began to take over Zanzibar and it ensured that slavery completely stopped. It also respected that the country was mainly Arab and allowed them to rule how they wanted.
