Observations: Vigorous effervescence seen. Ammonia gas produced turned moist red litmus paper blue.

Test: Add dilute HCl then aq. BaCl2/add dilute HNO3 then aq. Ba(NO3).
Observations: White ppt (BaSO4) formed. The ppt is insoluble in the acid.
