Test for anions Flashcards
What are anions?
They are negative ions
What are the tests and observations for Carbonates?
Test: Add dilute HCl
Observations: Effervescence(CO2) produced.
What are the tests and observations for Sulfites?
Test: Add dilute HCl
Observations: Effervescence(SO2) produced on warming.
What are the tests and observations for Nitrates?
Test: Add aq. NaOH an a little aluminium powder/foil. Warm gently.
Observations: Vigorous effervescence seen. Ammonia gas produced turned moist red litmus paper blue.
What are the tests and observations for Sulfates?
Test: Add dilute HCl then aq. BaCl2/add dilute HNO3 then aq. Ba(NO3).
Observations: White ppt (BaSO4) formed. The ppt is insoluble in the acid.
What are the tests and observations for Chlorides?
Test: Add dilute HNO3 then aq. AgNO3
Observations: White ppt (AgCl) formed. The ppt is insoluble in the acid.
What are the tests and observations for iodides?
Test: Add aq. PbNO3
Observations: Yellow precipitate (PbI2) formed
