Q

What were Troward’s chief contributions to new thought?

A

Remember the teaching of Troward, “the
higher level of intelligence can control the
lower level of intelligence if it chooses to do so.”

we are “individualizations of pure spirit” who have the ability to control “all (lesser) modes of spirit which have not yet reached the same level of recognition.” As we discover the relationship of reciprocal action between ourselves and the universal, we open ourselves to the universal energy of love and healing occurs. Creative Process in the Individual.

The Reciprocal Relationship between Universal Spirit and the individual is one of the most important ideas of Thomas Troward and is critical to the understanding of spiritual mind treatment. As individuals open themselves to the Universal, the “Universal seems to pour itself into the individual,” resulting in expanded individualization of consciousness.

Individuals wish to express fully and completely as individuals. This desire pushes them into higher states of consciousness and ultimately they encounter the dimension of Universal Spirit.
Universal Spirit, through Its reciprocal action, wishes to express through the individual, and therefore meets the individual where individual and Universal Mind merge together.

It is like a plant that is pushing itself up by its roots from below towards the sun and, at the same time, the sun is pulling the plant toward its universal rays. This reciprocal action must begin with individuals opening to the possibility of a Presence and Power greater than themselves. They begin the process with an act of faith, inviting the Universal into their individualized minds and the Universal responds and pours forth Its energy into the mind s of individuals according to the degree of acceptance and receptivity of individuals.

Q

What were Evan’s chief contributions to new thought?

A

“I see how it is that by believing I have the thing for which I am praying causes me to have it.”
Faith, Evans continued, “proceeds from God” and “if my belief of it is a truth received from God, or if my faith is the faith of God, it becomes a substantial reality.” At this crucial point Evans arrived at his insight that faith is a force, which manifests “an actual realization of what I am praying for.” While framing this principle in Christian terms, Evans is saying that mental certitude and visualization, backed by faith, is the engine of creation.

Q

what are the basic ideas of nt?

A

HERE 1. The immediate availability of God. Every person has access to the Presence and Power of Divine Mind because that Mind is contained in every person.

TRUTH 2. The discovery and use of Wisdom (truth) as a practical solution to all human problems. Every person has the ability to open themselves to this Wisdom and thereby reveal spiritual answers to human problems.

GOOD 3. The inevitability that “the good” shall be realized by every soul. Every soul will eventually find its perfect way back to God.

IMMORTAL 4. The knowledge of the immortality and the continuity of the individualized soul forever expanding.

TRANSCEND 5. The awakening, not to the absorption of individual identity in God, but to the complete absorption of God into the individual. Thus, every person comes into the complete awareness that they are an individualized center of God consciousness, eternally expanding.
