Test 7 Flashcards
Neutral Stimulus
A stimulus that initially, does not trigger any response.
Unconditioned Stimulus
A stimulus that unconditionally, naturally, and automatically triggers a response.
Unconditioned Response
An unlearned response that occurs naturally in reaction to an unconditioned stimulus.
Conditioned Stimulus
A previously neutral stimulus that, after becoming associated with the unconditioned stimulus, eventually comes to trigger a conditioned response.
Predicts the unconditioned stimulus.
Conditioned Response
A learned response to a conditioned stimulus.
Delta Value
Represents the change in strength of association.
Represents the amount of learning.
Alpha
Represents the salience.
Determines the rate of learning.
Does not vary during conditioning.
Has a range of 0-1.
Lambda
Represents the maximum amount of learning.
Does not vary during conditioning.
Has a range of 0-100.
Value
Represents the strength of association.
Rescorla-Wagner Equation
(delta)Vi = ai x ((lambda) - EVi)
Spontaneous Recovery
Occurs when an extinct association returns after a period of time.
Facilitated Reacquisition
Occurs when an extinct association is acquired faster than the initial association.
Latent Inhibition
Occurs when one has prior exposure to a conditioned stimulus.
Acquisition becomes slower.
Acquisition
The learning of an association.
A conditioned stimulus is followed by an unconditioned stimulus.
Characterized by a sharp incline and gradually tapers off.
Extinction
The unlearning of an association.
The unconditioned stimulus does not follow the conditioned stimulus.
Characterized by a sharp decline and gradually tapers off.
