Q

John Hunter and the Irish Giant, Charles Byrne

A

John Hunter:
Father of modern surgery, very dedicated and extreme.
One time he accidentally tore his Achilles tendon so he cut an animal’s Achilles tendon and compared the two to see the healing process.
Infected himself with syphilis to experiment and test theories and find difference between syphilis and gonorrhea.

Charles Byrne:
Had gigantism and made a lot of money off of it in the circus, but he drank a lot so he knew his death was coming.

Byrne knew that Hunter would want his body to dissect it, so he pays people to make sure they bury his dead body to prevent being dissected. Hunter bribed people to get Byrne’s dead body to dissect.
