Test 4 Flashcards
The scientific study of muscles
myology
What are the three types of muscular tissue
skeletal, cardiac, and smooth
this muscle is named because of the function of most of these muscles is to move the bones of the skeleton
skeletal muscle tissue
this muscle is striated and voluntary
skeletal muscle
this muscle is found only in the hear, where it forms most of the heart wall
cardiac muscle
this muscle is striated but involuntary
cardiac muscle
this is the built in rhythm of the heart which it initiates each contraction
autorhythmicity
this type of muscle is located in the walls of hollow internal structures such as blood vessels, airways, and most organs in the abdominopelvic cavity
smooth muscle
this muscle is attached to hair follicles in the skin
smooth muscle
this muscle is non striated and involuntary
smooth muscle
these muscles flex the cervical position of the vertebral column and flexes the head
sternocleidomastoid (SCM)
Where is the origin of the sternocleidomastoid
sternal head: manubrium of sternum and clavicular head: medial third of clavicle
where is the insertion of the sternocleidomastoid
mastoid
What is the together action of the sternocleidomastoid
flex cervical portion of vertebral column; flex at atlanto-occipital joints
what is the single action of the sternocleidomastoid
laterally rotate and flex head to opposite side of contracting muscle
What is the innervation of the motor supply of the sternocleidomastoid
accessory (XI) nerve
what is the innervation of the sensory supply of the sternocleidomastoid
C2 and C3
this muscle is a long muscle that extends the entire length of the anterior abdominal wall
rectus abdominis
What is the origin of the rectus abdominis
pubic crest and pubic symphysis
Where is the insertion of the rectus abdominis
Cartilage of ribs 5-7 and xiphoid process
what is the action of the rectus abdominis
Flexes vertebral column (especially lumbar portion) and compresses abdomen to aid in defecation, urination, forced exhalation, and childbirth
Where is the innervation of the rectus abdominis
anterior rami of thoracic spinal nerves T7-T12
This is the superficial muscle of the abdomen; its fascicles extend inferiorly and exteriorly
external oblique
where is the origin of the external oblique
ribs 5-12
