Q

Why is it important for the hormone made by the membranes around the embryo to keep the corpus luteum alive?

A

IF THE CORPUS LUTEUM IS ALIVE IT KEEPS MAKING PROGESTERONE WHICH KEEPS WALL OF UTERUS THICK – SO DEVELOPING BABY CAN STAY ATTACHED AND THE PLACENTA CAN FORM – FROM WHICH DEVELOPING BABY GETS ITS NOURISHMENT AND GETS RID OF ITS WASTE. IF CORPUS LUTEUM SHRIVELS UP THEN NO PROGESTERONE AND EXTRA LINING OF UTERUS LEAVES – MENSTRUATION – NEW CYCLE.

25
The place in the uterus where the zygote embeds will develop into the...
placenta
26
what substances can go from the mother to the baby by diffusing from the mother's blood to the baby's?
Amino acids, vitamin C, glucose, carbon dioxide, alchohol, fatty acids, oxegyn, glycerol, vitamin A
27
What is another name for the placenta?
AFTERBIRTH
28
What attaches the developing baby to the placenta?
UMBILICAL CORD

How many eggs must be fertilized to have four non-identical children at one birth?
4
30
Which kind of twins have exactly the same heredity?
Identical
31
Why should one try to reduce the risk of having a premature baby?
Way more health problems
32
Explain how the umbilical cord and placenta are involved in supplying the fetus with oxygen and nutrients and with removing wastes.
NUTRIENTS FROM THE MOTHER’S BLOOD DIFFUSES THROUGH THE PLACENTA TO THE BABY’S BLOOD – THE CAPILLARIES OF MOTHER AND CHILD ARE INTERTWINED IN THE PLACENTA – FROM THE PLACENTA THE MATERIALS THAT DIFFUSED FROM THE MOTHER ARE TAKEN BY THE UMBILICAL CORD TO THE BABY – THE BABY’S WASTES TRAVEL IN DIFFERENT VESSELS TO THE PLACENTA WHERE THEY DIFFUSE FROM THE BABY’S BLOOD TO THE MOTHERES.
