Reason, objectivity, scientific knowledge, and structure.
Classical period: what is the Viennese School?
Less of a real school, more the influence of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven.
Classical: What is the multi movement cycle?
A sequence of sections or movements. First: Sonata-allegro. Second: There and Variations or ABA. Third(?): Minuet and Trio. Fourth: Sonata-allegro.
Classical: What are the stylistic components?
Simplicity, tonal harmony, single-line Melodie’s, and enlarged ensembles.
When was Sonata-Allegro form used?
The 18th century classicism era, first movement.
What were the sections of Sonata-allegro form.
Exposition. Bridge. Development. Recapitulation. Coda.
What was the patronage system?
The patronage system was a system used by musicians in which the patron would tell them what to do whenever they wanted something, and in return the musician would get money.
What is a string quartet?
An important chamber music of the era, (two violins, viola, and cello)
What is a Classical symphony?
Roots in Italian opera overture, orchestral piece in three sections: fast-slow-fast.
What is a Classical concerto and cadenza?
Concerto: fast-slow-fast
Cadenzas: improvised solo passages, a genre of concerto
What is a classical opera seria?
Formalized genre inherited from the baroque.
What is classical opera buffa?
A lighter genre also, opera comique, a less important counterpart to the more formal and higher class operas.
What is a Requiem Mass
A mass made for a funeral, a song played there. Mozart died writing a requiem which was later finished by a student, Fran’s Xaver Sussmayr.
What is a classical sonata?
A musical composition with an exposition, development, and a recapitulation.
