L’imparfait
What is it/when do we use it?

How does conjugation work?
We use l’imparfait do describe events that happened in the past but continued to happen, or ongoing actions in the past. Sets the scene with stories/ narration and background information
-ais, -ais, -ait, -ions, -iez, -aient
ex: parlais, parlais, parlait, parlions, parliez, parlaient
Conjugation: these keep the same stem, there is NO change to the stem, even for irregulars. Just drop the ending and add the new ones.
Faisait, sortais, avions
etre is a different case: etais, etais, etait, etions, etiez, etaient
Plus-que-parfait
When do we use it?
Conjugations?
Expresses action or state that happened before another past action
Av/et:
-ais, -ais, -ait, -ions, -iez, -aient
goes first, then use the passe compose version of the verb. avoir or etre usage is based on the verb’s conjugation
