Relative pronouce dontns: ce qui, ce que,

A

ce qui replaces a preposition that is the subject:
ex: tu as tort. C’est evident.–> tu as tort, ce qui est evident

ce que: replaces clause that is a direcct object
ex: Je ne comprends pas. Tu dis quelque chose.–> Je ne comprends pas ce que tu dis

ce dont: replaces clause that is the object of preposition “de”
ex: Il a reussi a l’examen. Il est content d’avoir reussi a l’examen.–> Il a reussi a l’examen, ce dont il est content

C’est/ ce sont, il/elle est and ils/elles sont

A

C’est and ce sont are used before a noun or pronoun. also used if nationality is capialized and with article

il est and ils sont are before an adjective or preposition. Used with adjective of nationality not capitalized

Exceptions to this rule:
Nationality, occupation, religion, social class

Elle est francaise- shes french
C’est une francaise- shes a french woman

Il est journaliste- he’s a journaliste
C’est un journaliste- smae

Ils sont catholiques- the’yre catholics
Ce sont des catholiques- the’yre catholics

Ils sont bourgeois- they’re middle class
Ce sont des bourgeos- they’re middle class people

C’est/ce sont can be followed by quelqu’un or quelque chose instead of a noun
