Notification of suspicious or unusual deaths; court ordered medical examiner’s inquiry

A

Reportable Deaths – Must Notify Coroner/Medical Examiner if Death Occurs:

  1. From violence, suicide, or accident
  2. Suddenly in good health
  3. Suspicious/unusual, esp. under age 16
  4. Unexpected under age 7
  5. Due to execution
  6. In custody (hospital/prison)
  7. Unconscious at hospital & dies within 24 hrs
  8. From drug overdose
  9. Pregnant/recently pregnant (unless clearly unrelated)
  10. Unattended by physician

Coroner/Investigator May Pronounce Death If No Medical Pro Available & One of the Following Applies:

  1. Rigor mortis with lividity
  2. Decomposition/putrefaction
  3. Skeletonized remains
  4. Death confirmed by EMS
