Huo Xiang Zheng Qi San (Patchouli/Agastache Powder to Rectify the Qi) ***
Actions: Releases the exterior, transforms dampness, regulates the qi, and harmonizes the middle burner
Indications: Fever and chills, h/a, a sensation of fullness and stifling oppression in the chest, pain in the epigastrium and abdomen, nausea and vomiting, borborygmus, diarrhea, loss of taste, a white, greasy tongue coating, and a moderate, soggy pulse. Also for sudden turmoil disorders or malarial disorders
Ping Wei San (Calm the Stomach Powder) ***
Actions: Dries Dampness, improves SP’s transporting function, promotes mvmt of qi, and harmonizes ST
Indications: Distention and fullness in the epigastrium and abdomen, loss of taste and appetite, a heavy sensation in the limbs, loose stool or diarrhea, easily-fatigued, increased desire to sleep, nausea and vomiting, belching, acid reflux, a swollen tongue w/thick, white and greasy coating, and a moderate or slippery pulse
San Ren Tang (Three-seed/Nut Decoction) **
Actions: Disseminates the qi, facilitates the qi, mechanisms, and clears damp-heat
Indications: h/a, chills, afternoon fever, heavy sensation in the body, generalized pain, pale-yellow, complexion, a stifling sensation in the chest, loss of appetite, an absence of thirst, a white tongue coating, and a wiry, thin and soggy pulse
Yin Chen Hao Tang (Virgate Wormwood Decoction) ***
Actions: Clears heat, resolves dampness, and reduces jaundice
Indication: Whole-body jaundice w/color that resembles a “fresh tangerine”, slight abdominal distention, urinary difficulty, thirst (with the ability to only take small sips) little or no sweating, or sweating only on head and stopping at the neck, a yellow, greasy tongue coating, and a slippery, rapid pulse
Ba Zheng San (Eight-Herb Powder for Rectification) ***
Actions: Clears heat, drains fire, promotes urination, and unblocks lin
Indications: freq, urgent, dark, turbid, scanty, difficult, and painful urination, usually w/burning sensation, dry mouth and throat, a yellow greasy tongue coating, and slippery rapid pulse. May have urinary retention w/lower abdominal distention and pain
Er Miao San (Two-Marvel Powder) ***
Actions: Clears heat and dries dampness
Indication: Soreness and pain in the lower back or extremities (sinews or bones), weakness or atrophy of the lower extemities, red, hot, swollen, and painful feet or knees, thick yellow foul-smelling vaginal discharge. May have scanty, yellow urine and a yellow, greasy tongue coating
Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder w/Poria) ***
Actions: Promotes urination, drains dampness, strengthens SP, warms the yang, and promotes the transforming functions of qi
Indications:
- water build-up disorder- h/a, fever, irritability, strong thirst but w/vomiting immediately after drinking, urinary difficulty, a white coating, and floating pulse
- Internal accumulation of water and dampness d/t SP def.- Edema, generalized sensation of heaviness, diarrhea, urinary difficulty, and possible vomiting, and diarrhea d/t sudden turmoil disorder
- Retention of thin mucus in the lower burner- Throbbing pulsations just below the umbillicus, vomiting frothy saliva, vertigo, SOB, coughing
Zhu Ling Tang (Polyporus Decoction) ***
Actions: Promotes urination, clears heat, and nourishes yin
Indications: Urinary difficulty accompanied by fever and thirst w/desire to drink. May also be diarrhea, cough, nausea, irritability, or insomnia
Wu Pi San (Five-Peel Powder) ***
Actions: Resolves dampness, reduces edema, regulates the qi, and strengthens the SP
Indications: generalized edema w/sensation of heaviness, distention, and fullness in epigastrium and abdomen, labored and heavy breathing, urinary difficulty, a white greasy tongue coating, and a submerged and moderate pulse
Ling Gui Zhu Gan Tang (Poria, Cinnamon Twig, Atractylodes, and Licorice Decoction) ***
Actions: Warms and transforms phlegm and thin mucus, strengthens SP, and resolves dampness
Indications: Fullness in the chest and hypochondria, palpitations, SOB, coughing up clear and watery sputum, dizziness or vertigo, a pale and swollen tongue w/white and slippery or greasy coating, and a slippery and either wiry or soggy pulse
Zhen Wu Tang (True Warrior Decoction) ***
Actions: Warms the yang and promotes urination
Indications:
- Retention of fluid-water (yin type edema) d/t KD or SP & KD yang def. being unable to control and transform water
- over inducing sweating on a greater yang warp disorder which injures the yang qi and damages the fluids
Shi Pi Yin (Bolster the SP Drink) **
Actions: Warms the yang, strengthens SP, move the qi, and promotes urination
Indication: generalized edema that is more severe below the waist, cold extremities, chest and abdominal fullness and distension, heavy sensation in the body, loss of appetite, absence of thirst, scanty urine, semi-liquid unformed stools, a thick, greasy tongue coating, and a submerged, slow or submerged, thin pulse
Qiang Huo Sheng Shi Tang (Notopterygium Decoction to Overcome Dampness) ***
Actions: Expels wind-cold and overcomes dampness
Indications: heavy and painful head, generalized sensation of heaviness, back pain or generalized pain, stiffness of the neck, difficulty in rotating or bending below the trunk, mild fever, chills, a white tongue coating, and a floating pulse
Juan Bi Tang (Remove Painful Obstruction Decoction from Awakening of the Mind in Medical Studies) ***
Actions: Removes wind-cold-dampness, regulates qi, invigorates blood and alleviates pain
Indications: joint pain that increases w/cold, and diminishes w/warmth, possibly accompanied by a sensation of heaviness and numbness in the limbs, a thick white tongue coating, and a slow, possibly slippery pulse
Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang (Angelica Pubescens and Taxillus Decoction) ***
Actions: Expels wind-cold-dampness, disperses obstruction, tonifies LV & KD, and strengthens Qi and blood
Indications: Heavy and painful sensations at fixed locations in the lower back and lower extremities, accompanied by weakness and stiffness, aversion to cold, preference for warmth, palpitations, SOB, a pale tongue w/white coating, and a thin, weak, slow pulse. may also be paresthesia or numbness
