Anorexia Nervosa
Eat very little, low calorie food or no food at all; think they are fat
7 year old characteristics
Very verbal, start to write, impatient, develop friends of same age and gender
Arthritis
Normal wear and tear of the muscles normally in aging adults
Behavior of older adults
Very traditional, don’t like new technology or habits; cranky; tired; sor
Bulimia
Excessive eating and then purging it back up; think they are fat
Care of Alzheimer’s
Take care of them in home if possible, if not, take to long term facility; have to be patient with them
Cataracts
Clouding of the lens of the eye
Causes of Alzheimer’s
No real cause for it, mainly genetic
Causes of cognitive impairment
Depression, anxiety, superstitions, paranoia, mental retardation, dementia, head injuries
Causes of suicide among teens
Abuse, bullying, lack of self esteem, stress, self hate, depression
Causes of temporary confusion
Part of normal aging, if not temporary, could be a form of dementia
Changes in cardiovascular system
Heart slows down, bad circulation, vascular degeneration, blood clots, strokes
Characteristics of nonverbal communication
Appearance, hand gestures, posture, facial expressions, touch, space, eye contact
Characteristics of verbal communication
Vocabulary, pacing, tone, clarity, brevity, timing, relevance
Communication barriers
Opinions, false reassurance, defensive, approval/disapproval, room noisy/quiet/warm/cold
