The family, now collectively known as “Isreal” had moved to Egypt and was growing quite fast. (on their way to becoming a mighty nation, like God promised)

The new pharaoh of Egypt sees the growing number of Israelites as a potential threat to the throne. He initiates a series of plans to attempt to bring and keep Israel under control.

- it didn’t work. In fact, the more they were oppressed, the more they grew and spread. He gets mad, and imposes ruthless brutality on the workers and turns to his next plan.
