Test 2 Pathologies Flashcards
Huntington’s chorea
Produce too much dopamine so movements are spastic and can’t stop= flailing movements
Parkinson’s
Problems in the basal nuclei control
Effects the neurons of basal ganglia which steady movements normally; neurons can’t make dopamine correctly so movements events aren’t stabilized and you shake
emotion induced illness
psychosomatic
schizophrenia
really high dopamine levels
treated with dopamine receptor blockers
depression
too little norepineprine, serotonin or both
hydocephaly
water on the brain
pressure builds up and can damage neurons
caused by the CSF being unable to drain into the blood sinus between the sub layers of the dura mater
neuritis
inflammation of neurons
neuralgia
pain due to inflamed neurons
sciatica
neuralgia of sciatic nerve
shingles
due to dormant chicken pox virus traveling from the dorsal root ganglia to a dermatome and stimulating that area to feel pain
cerebral palsy
damage to motor parts of the brain
caused by oxygen deprivation
efferent motor part damaged
neuroma
neural cell tumor
glioma
glial cell tumor
keeps glial cell from being able to protect the nervous system so it can be damaged
stroke (cerebral vascular accident)
brain loses oxygen due to blockage of vessel of rupture
most common brain disorder
3rd leading cause of death in the US
TIA
transient ischemia attack
=reduced blood flow
