Test 2. behavioral consultation model Flashcards
What are the two major theoretical models of consultation ?
Behavioral and Mental Health Models
What is the definition of the Behavioral Consultation model?
The Behavioral Consultation model emphasizes contingencies of reinforcement, modeling, and self-reinforcement. The main focus of the consultation process is the client.
Describe the relationship seen in the behavioral consultation model.
Services c are provided either indirectly to the client or system or directly by training consultees to enhance their skills with clients or systems
What are the key concepts of the Behavioral Consultation model?
- Scientific view of behavior
- Emphasis on current influences on behavior
- Principles of behavior change
Describe the Scientific view of behavior seen in the Behavioral Consultation model.
The Scientific view Is a systematic and structured approach to consultation.
b. There is an emphasis on scientific investigation and researching the subject to get scientific validation.
c. The scientific view also uses empirically validated consultation interventions because that increases the likelihood of success.
Describe the emphasis on current influences of behavior and focus on principles of behavior change.
- Focuses on the idea that certain current behaviors constitute the problem . All behaviors serve a purpose. Student is either trying to get or avoid something or has a skill or performance deficit. two similar behaviors can serve different purposes.
- Emphasizes description of behavior, not the person
- Better allows for operational definition of the problem - helps define goals
- Focuses on principles of behavior change, because changing the consequences of behavior produces change in behavior.
- Also, emphasizes social learning theory, which is a recent trend to integrate learning paradigms
What are the 4 stages in the behavioral model?
- Problem identification
- Problem analysis
- Plan implementation
- plan evaluation
Describe the problem identification stage.
the goal is to operationally define the problem (i.e. behavior). Also, a directive is to provide a tentative identification of the behavior in terms of the antecedent, situation and consequent conditions as well as determine the strength of the behavior (how often or severe)
Describe the problem analysis stage.
the consultant delves further into the nature of the problem, usually by observing it directly, by conducting a functional assessment (if appropriate) to determine the function that the behavior serves, clarify issues with the consultee, and brainstorm possible interventions.
Describe the plan implementation stage.
the goal is to maximize the likelihood that a plan will be put into effect with integrity. It is important to provide training, monitor client behavior, & monitor treatment implementation by the consultee providing feedback and changes to the plan where needed.
Describe the plan evaluation stage.
the goal is to evaluate whether the client’s goals have been achieved and evaluate the treatment plan. Also, continuation, modification or termination of the plan is determined at this stage. Furthermore, planning for post-implementation is done to ensure the problem will not occur again.
What are the current approaches/types of of consultation?
- behavioral case consultation
- behavioral technology training
- behavioral system consultation
