What is a somatic response?
A body reaction. increased heart rate and respiration, muscle tension, shaking, dry mouth, sometimes nausea.
What are the 4 different types of reactions someone can have when dealing with anxiety?
Somatic, cognitive, emotional, behavioral
What is a cognitive symptom?
(Thinking, Head): anticipation of harm, rumination (repetitive thoughts), sense of unreality (With panic: the walls are closing in on them), problems concentrating
What is an emotional response?
Fear, terror, irritability, restlessness, dread
What is a behavioral response?
escape, avoidance, hyper-vigilance, aggression, freezing
What is a complex pattern of 4 different types of reactions to a perceived threat?
anxiety
What is the difference between normal anxiety and chronic anxiety?
How realistic is it?
How severe is it?
How persistent is it?
