Test 2 Flashcards
Types of energy.
Light energy
Heat energy
Kinetic energy
Energy can only be stored or released.
What is chemical energy?
Energy of covalent bonds.
What happens when you make a bond?
Store energy (NADP+ —> NADPH)
What happens when you break a bond?
Release energy (NADH —> NAD+)
In the release of energy, what is happening?
ATP —> ADP
In the storing of energy, what is happening?
ADP —> ATP
What is ATP?
Adenosine Triphosphate.
What is ADP?
Adenosine Diphosphate.
In regards to light energy, the smaller the wave?
More energy.
In regards to light energy, the bigger the wave?
Less energy.
Is non-ionizing radiation dangerous?
Not dangerous.
What is ROYGBIV?
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.
What is included in the action spectrum?
(Red/blue) This is where photosynthesis occurs.
What are pigments?
If something absorbs light, it is considered a pigment. The color you see is the only color not absorbed.
What is happening when you see the color white?
All colors in the color spectrum are being reflected.
What is happening when you see the color black?
All colors in the color spectrum are being absorbed.
What happens when you heat an enzyme?
It denatures the enzyme.
What happens in light dependent reactions?
Light energy is converted to chemical energy.
Where do light dependent reactions take place?
In the chloroplasts.
Where do light dependent reactions get energy?
The sun.
What chemical energy do light dependent reactions produce?
ATP and NADPH.
How much is made is?
The product.
What is the saturation point?
Percent light where maximum photosynthesis occurs.
What is the Krebbs cycle?
Citric acid cycle. Every two times around produces one glucose.
