Test 1- Range of Motion Flashcards
1
Q
Range of motion
A
- The amount of excursion an individual can move through freely and without pain
-Joint move through all osteokinematics (sagittal/ frontal/ transverse)
2
Q
Active range of motion
A
- the total movement one can do on their own
(They are actively lifting their segments on their own maximum)
3
Q
Passive Range of Motion
A
- The total amount excursion one can do when completely relaxed & someone moves their limbs for them
(they are moving without actively engaging any contractions themselves)
4
Q
What If PROM is greater than AROM?
A
- PROM is usually equal to, or greater, than AROM
5
Q
what does Lower AROM and Higher PROM
A
Means that the decreased AROM is likely not from anatomical concerns
6
Q
Measuring ROM
A
-Uses of Goniometers are the devices used to measure the angles
Three Parts
- Stationary Arm
-Fulcrum (the center)
-Moving arm
7
Q
Limitations in human movement
A
Movement is dependent on things:
- the ability to generate sufficient forces for movement
-the ability to produce motion through a range of motion
8
Q
What does limiting either the force productions or the range of motion mean
A
Means something is insufficient to produce healthy movements
9
Q
Active Insufficiency
A
- the shortening of a biarticular muscle at both joints to thus reduce the ability to produce force
- Conducting the action of a muscle at both joints
10
Q
Passive Insufficiency
A
- when a biarticular muscle stretches at one joint and then limits motion at the other joint, rendering it insufficient for movement.
-inhibiting range of motion at another joint through stretching at the other
