- Ages 3-5
- Can qualify through Part B of IDEA
YCDD
Young Child with Developmental Delay
-Eligibility: development must be 1. at or below 1.5 standard deviation or equivalent levels in TWO areas of domain (physical, cognition, communication) 2. 2.0 standard deviations or equivalent in ONE areas of domain
Role of OT services in preschool
- Screen children to assess development skills
- Develop individual and unique educational programming
- Identify child’s strengths and needs using dynamic evaluation approaches
- Develop educational goals and objectives for learning success preschool environment

-Recommended practices for ECSE (Early Childhood Special Education) teams: assessment practices, inclusive/accessible environments, team collaboration and instructional practices
Preschool age services
- Location of services depends on child’s individual needs
- OT is related service only (no longer primary service)
- Family focus is most important for practice
Preschool Part B- Evaluation Process
- Parental permission required
- Assessment (play-based, preformed by individual team members, in natural environment)
- Evaluating occupational performance: by parent/teacher, observations, interviews, assessments, reporting results
Early childhood special education eligibility
- Cross- categorical: No specific category or educational diagnosis, child has developmental delay in one or more areas
- Child classified generally as YCDD (Young Child With Developmental Delay)
Termination of OT services in schools
Either due to:
- OT services no longer needed to support student education
- IEP student goals not met
Objectives vs Benchmarks
- Objectives: Break the skills described in an annual goal into discrete components of measurable skills to reach a goal
- Benchmarks: Describes progress for the student using increasing segmented steps
