TEST 1 - Nov 2019 Flashcards
List 5 characteristics of living things.
Metabolism Responsiveness Movement Growth Differentiation Reproduction
What are the levels of organisation of the body
Whole Person System Organ Tissue Cells Molecule Atom
What are molecules made up of?
Atoms
a) List 4 important types of body molecules.
b) What is another name of these types of molecules?
a) Water, DNA, Enzyme, Oxygen, ATP, Carbon
b) Carbohydrates, Proteins, Lipids, Nucleic Acid, Vitamins
Which of these are the sugars?
Carbonhydrate
What are sugars important for?
To provide energy.
What are proteins important for?
Structural, defence (antibodies), hormones, enzymes
What does ATP do?
Carries/store energy
In what kind of cells would you expect to find a lot of ATP
Very active cells like muscles or nerves
What do lysosomes do in the cell?
- Degrade proteins, and get rid of waste out of cells
- Contain a digestive enzyme to break down eg pathogensin the cell)
What does DNA do?
Contains the instructions for what the cell does
carries the genetic information needed to construct cells
Name 2 things that epithelium does.
( Secretes, absorbs, protects, lines)
( protect or enclose organ.
They stay together for the molecule broke down.)
