(Test 1: 7.) Joint Pain Flashcards
What is the difference between sensitivity and specificity?
Highly specific tests rule diseases in.
Highly sensitive tests rule diseases out.
What are the steps to assessing a joint?
Observe
Palpate
Range of motion
Neurological assessment
Vascular assessment
Specialty testing
Define a sprain versus a strain.
You sprain a ligament – may feel or hear a “pop”
You strain a muscle – and may feel a “grabbing sensation”
How are likelihood ratios used to predict disease?
A large likelihood ratio greater than one increases the likelihood of a diagnosis.
The closer the likelihood ratio gets to zero (smaller than one) the less likely a diagnosis is.
Both directions are valuable, but tests with a likelihood ratio near to one are useless.
