Suspense/Surprise
When a writer withholds information from the reader, creating a sense of curiosity with the use of suggestive detail.
Anticlimax
When a writer brings the reader down abruptly to reality, humorously mocking his expectations.
Dramatic Irony
When a writer provides the reader with information about the situation or outcome that has been concealed from a character, creating a contrast between the reader’s knowledge and the character’s ignorance. This causes the character’s words to appear in an absurd light.

Corrective ridicule in literature.
