What was the War Guilt Clause?
A
- Germany must accept responsibility for starting the war
- Germany saw this as a national humiliation and combined with other provisions, was considered ‘diktat’ or ‘slave treaty’

What were the Economic Provisions?
A
- Reparations of 6.6 billion pounds had to be paid
- Locomotives and machinery had to be handed over to France and Belgium
- Coal (millions of tonnes) had to be given to France for 15 years and Belgium and Italy for 10 years

- German army limited to 100,000
- All volunteers, no conscription
- No tanks or heavy artillery, no air force and surrendered weapons
- Naval forces restricted to small number of battleships, light cruisers, destroyers and torpedo boats
