Made by Jesuit Luis de Alcasar
Futurism
That interprets portions of Revelation, the book of Daniel, and
other prophecies as future events in a literal, physical, apocalyptic, and global context
Close association to Premillenialism and Dispensationalism
Some futurist interpretation: Irenaeus of Lyon for instance said that the 70th week of
Daniel is yet to be fulfilled (to counter again the Protestant historicist interpretation of Dan and REV)
Fransisco Ribera (1537-1591) wrote a 500 page commentary on Rev- established in futurist interpretation
Historicism Interpretation
Associates bible prophecies with actual historical events and identify symbolic beings with historical persons or societies.
This view results in a progressive and continuos fulfilment of prophecy and contained the
viewpoint from almost all protestant reformers from reformation to 19th century
Main texts of interest are Dan and Rev- and historicist methods have been applied to
Jewish history, the Roman Empre, Islam, the Papacy, the Modern era till end of time

relates to human beings in different ways under different biblical covenants in a series of
“dispensations” or periods of history )Old dispensation vs New)
Expounded on by John Nelson Darby(1800-82) and the Plymouth Brethern=en movement, and
propagated through works such as Cyrus Scofield’s Scofield reference bible.
Dispensationalism hold to premillennialism and most hold to pretribulation rapture
- So to them, the nation of Israel is distinct from the Christian Church, and that
God has yet to fulfill His promises to nation of Israel (including land promises
which in the future world to come in a millennial kingdom and third temple where
Christ upon return will rule the world from Jerusalem for 1000 years
Other belief, wide range
Line upon line, precept upon precept
All scripture passages bearing upon the same theme/subject are brought together to determine the biblical teaching on that subject.
Eg. State of dead- passages in genesis, writings of paul etc, come together to teach that the dead are just corpses and there is no conscious soul roaming about after you die
