What caused the Opium Wars?
China was self sufficient but Europe was not, and it needed entry into the Chinese market. It wished to import silver from China in exchange for opium. However, not liking what opium was doing to its people, China refused the transaction and Britain declared war on it.
When was the Treaty of Nanking and what was the main term within it?
1842, and Hong Kong was taken by the British.
Which areas were allowed to host British residents as part of subsequent treaties after Nanking?
Guangzhou and Shanghai
Between which 1824 and 1826, what country did the British seize?
Burma
In 1885-86, What did the Brits do to the country it defeated between 1824-1826
It took complete control of it, absorbing it into British India
Which other three areas did Britain conquer aside from China and Burma?
Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei.

How did the French differentiate their colonization from the British?
Unlike the British the French wanted to spread their culture to their colonies also. Therefore, they made people speak only French and ran Indochina as a brutal police state.
Which country did the Dutch rule? And who did they boot out to take over?
Indonesia, and they plucked out the Portuguese.
What did the Dutch exploit from their colony?
Rubber and Oil.
How did the Dutch prevent any revolts against its rule?
Restricting freedom of expression so there were no resources/abilities to overthrow the colonizers.
Which Chinese province was ruled by Germany, and what did they export?
Tsingtao, and beer.
