What is Daoism? What is their goal, and what is the famous quote associated with it?
Daoism, or Taoism, means “the way”. The Tao is the force behind everything. Daoists seek to regulate their thoughts and emotions, enough to make them a choice. “If you know Daoism, you don’t know it.”
Define Yin and Yang
A symbol of Confucianism that describes the unity of opposites. There is a little bit of good in the bad, and a little bit of bad in the good.
What is Ren?
The relationship between two human beings wherein empathy is the fundamental component.
What is “second nature”?
Acting in a moral way to the point where it becomes a second nature.
What is associated with Buddhism?
Karma and Reincarnation.
What is Shamanism?
A folk religion.
Who is Khubilai Khan? What dynasty did he establish?
The 5th Khagan of the Mongol Empire who ruled over most of modern day China and Mongolia. He established the Yuan dynasty.
What is Wenyan?
Old Written Chinese, used up until the end of the Han empire.
What is Baihua?
Written Vernacular Chinese used up until the 20th century.
What is fanti and jianti? Who uses which?
Classical and Simplified Chinese characters respectfully. Taiwan and Hong Kong favor fanti, while the mainland China favors jianti.
