A written or stated agreement between patient and caregiver that contains the place time date and duration of meetings
Contract
A mentoring relationship characterized by evaluation and feedback. And a gradual increase in autonomy and responsibility
Clinical supervision
The tendency of the nurse to displace into the patients feelings that are a response to people in the nurse past
Counter transference
The ability of one person to get inside another’s world see things from the other persons perspective and communicate this understanding to the other person
Empathy
Self awareness of ones feelings as they arise within the nurse patient relationship and the ability to communicate them when appropriate
Genuineness
The phase of the nurse patient relationship in which the nurse and patient meet and the nurse conducts the initial interview
Orientation phase
Care consisting of dignity and respect, information sharing, patient and family participation, and collaboration in policy and program development
Patient centered care
A relationship characterized by trust, support and understanding
Rapport
A relationship that is primarily initiated for the purpose of friendship, socialization, enjoyment, or accomplishment of a task.
Social relationship
A brief, informal meeting between nurse and patient in which the relationship is useful and important for the patient
Therapeutic encounter
A relationship requiring that the nurse maximize his or her communication skills, understanding of human behaviors, and personal strengths in order to enhance personal growth in the patient
Therapeutic relationship
Creative use of unique personality traits and talents to form positive bonds with others
Therapeutic use of self
Abstract standards that represent an ideal either positive or negative
