Assimilation
Adapting to the beliefs, values, and practices of a new cultural setting
Acculturation
A nurses act of adjusting his or her practices to meet a patients cultural beliefs, practices, needs, and preferences
Cultural competence
Sets of signs and symptoms common in a limited number of cultures but virtually nonexistent in most other cultural groups
Culture bound syndromes
Views the family as the basis for ones identity so that family interdependence and group decision making are the norm
Eastern tradition
The process in which a cultures worldview beliefs values and practices are transmitted to its members
Enculturation
The people and culture that have inhabited a country for thousands of years
Indigenous culture
Describes economic and social standing in society
Minority status
A field that focuses on how genes affect individual responses to medicines
Pharmacogenetics
The expression of psychological stress through physical symptoms
Somatization
A worldwide view In which ones identity is found in individuality which inspires the valuing of autonomy independence and self reliance

A system for thinking about how the world works and how people should behave in it and in relationships with one another
