Loss of ability to express/understand communication (usually due to CVA or head injury)
Aphasia
Lack of voluntary coordination of muscle movements, including gait abnormalities.
Ataxia
Disorder of motor planning. Unable to perform purposeful tasks.
Apraxia
Difficulty or unclear articulation of speech that is otherwise linguistically normal
Dysarthria
Uncontrolled, slow rhythmic writhing movement, esp of fingers, hands, head, and tongue, caused by cerebral lesion
Athetoisis
Rapid, jerky, dyskinetic, involuntary mov’ts
Choreoathetoid
Tremor consisting of involuntary jerking movements, especially in the hands
Asterixis
Removal of portions of the cortical substance of a structure or organ.
Decorticate
Elimination of cerebral functioning
Decerebrate
Paralysis of one side of the body
Hemiplegia
Paralysis of lower half of the body
Paraplegia
Paralysis of upper and lower body
Quadriplegia
Dulled sensitivity. Decreased alterness
Obtundation
Lots ‘o sleep
Hypersomnia
