Conforming
A type of social influence where an individual gives in to group pressure. Also known as majority influence.
Complying
Publicly changing behaviour to fit in with the group while privately disagreeing.
Obeying
Doing as instructed by a perceived authority figure.
Internalisation
Publicly changing behaviour to fit in with the group and also agreeing privately.
Dispositional attribution
Explaining behaviour in terms of the person.
Situational attribution
Explaining behaviour in terms of the situation.
Fundamental Attribution Error (FAE) ot Attributional Bias
Wrongly explaining or attributing another person’s behaviour in terms of the person rather than the situation.
Personality
A person’s unique and stable responses to specific situations.
Dissent
Where a person makes clear his or her objection to an order, which is followed by the person obeying or disobeying the order.
Disobedience (or independent behaviour)
Not doing as instructed by a perceived authority figure.
