Terminology Flashcards
In a concept oriented Terminology, what is Non-redundancy?
No more than one Concept Identifier with the Same Meaning. Synonyms need to be explicitly represented. (e.g. Heart Attack and MI are redundant terms)
In a concept-oriented Terminology, what is Non-ambiguity?
No one Concept Identifier can have more than one meaning (e.g. MI–can’t mean both Myocardial Infarction and Mitral Insufficiency) The entry term can be the same “MI”. . .but there need to be two distinct concept identifiers
In a concept-Oriented Terminology, what is Non-vagueness?
Concept Names must be “context free” so if they appear alone they will not be ambiguous. e.g., Diabetes Mellitus should not have a child called “Well Controlled”. . .instead should be “Diabetes Mellitus, Well Controlled”
In a concept-Oriented Terminology, what is Internal Consistency?
Relationships btw concepts should be uniform across paralell domains. For example, if heart valve structures are specified anatomically then disease related to heart valves should also be specified across the same structure using the same relationships.
In a terminology, what is the difference between Coverage and Comprehensiveness?
Coverage = depth (ability to differentiate btw stages of cancer. Comprehensiveness = breadth (including both CMS and AHRQ mortality models)
