What does SMART stand for?
Safe - do not give out personal information online
Meet - do not meet up with someone you have met online without your parents permission
Accepting - do not accept emails, messages, files, pictures, friend requests from people you do not know.
Reliable - information may be inaccurate and people you meet online may be lying about who they are e.g. Pretending to be a 10year old when they are actually 60 years old.
Tell - some adult you trust if you are uncomfortable about something or are being bullied or is you think someone else is being harmed by being online.
What actions should your family take to protect against the danger of a fire in your home?
Plan fire escape routes and practice them.
Have fire extinguishers and fire blankets in the house.
Install smoke alarms.

Name three fire hazards in your home and how you can prevent them causing a fire.
Candles - make sure they are on a secure base and away from anything which could catch fire. Never leave them unattended.
Electrical plugs and sockets - do not put too many plugs onto one socket. Make sure all cables are not broken.
Open fires - make sure there is a fire guard in front of them and do not leave them attended.
Explain what you should do if your clothes catch fire.
Stop running, drop quickly to the ground, and roll backwards and forwards quickly to put out the flames.
What would you say are the thee most important things to remember if a fire breaks out in your house?
(1) get out fast following the escape route your family have planned and stay out!
(2) call the fire department when you get out.
(3) stay low to the floor , checking if doors are hot before you open them and do not panic.

How can electrical cords cause a fire?
Frayed electrical wires or plugging too many plugs into a plug point can cause a spark that can ignite flammable materials or products nearby.
What should you do if you get burnt?
Tell an adult straight away.
Run cold water on the burnt area for at least 10 minutes.
Out burn shield on the area if you have it.
Remove clothing near the burn unless it is sticking to the burnt skin.
Don’t touch the burn that could cause infection.

Why is water important?
All living things depend on water for survival:
Humans need it to keep hydrated, for transportation, for cleaning, for food production.
Plants need it to make food and grow
Many animals live in the water and die if left outside of water.

What is a drought? What are the stage three water restrictions just introduced by city of Cape Town to help manage the water during our drought?
A drought is when there has not been sufficient rain in an area to support the usual activities.
stage three water restrictions are as follows:
No automatic watering systems or hosepipes.
Watering of gardens only with a bucket or watering can.
No watering within 24 hours of rainfall.
No washing down of hard surfaces or paving permitted.
Washing cars only with a bucket.
Use of portable pools is prohibited.
No pools without covers can be topped up.
