TERM 1 - Cells Flashcards
What’s the word formula for photosynthesis?
Carbon Dioxide and Water ——-Sunlight——> Glucose and Oxygen
What is the word formula for cellular respiration?
Glucose and Oxygen —————-> Water, Carbon Dioxide and ATP.
What does cellular respiration do?
It allows us to take the sunlight captured in photosynthesis, reverse it and turn it into carbon dioxide, water and ATP.
What are the two reasons that chloroplasts are green?
Because the contain a green substance called chlorophyll and because they take in red and blue light for photosynthesis and when combined they make green.
What is the cytosol?
The jelly-like substance inside the cells is the cytosol. It contains many important substances, such as glucose, that are needed for chemical reactions that occur inside the cells.
What does the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum do?
The Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum is an organelle which produces proteins for the rest of the cell. It has many ribosomes on it this allows it to produce those proteins.
What does the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum do?
The Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum is an organelle involved in the storing and synthesis of insoluble organic substances for production of cell tissue. (cell membrane is cell tissue)
