how to form imperfect subjunctive?
- Start with third-person plural form of the preterite tense of the verb.
- Remove -ron ending
hablaron → habla-
comieron → comie- - Add the imperfect subjunctive endings (two sets)
What are the 2 sets of endings for imperfect subjunctive?
Set 1:
yo: -ra
tú: -ras
él/ella/usted: -ra
nosotros: -ramos (note the accent on the vowel before the ‘r’)
vosotros: -rais
ellos/ellas/ustedes: -ran
Set 2:
yo: -se
tú: -ses
él/ella/usted: -se
nosotros: -semos (note the accent on the vowel before the ‘s’)
vosotros: -seis
ellos/ellas/ustedes: -sen
When do you use pluperfect tense?
The pluperfect tense is used to describe an action that had occurred before another action or point in the past. It is equivalent to “had” + past participle in English (e.g., “I had eaten”, “We had played”).
How to form the pluperfect tense?
auxiliary verb “haber” in imperfect tense + the past participle of main verb.
“haber” in the imperfect tense:
yo: había
tú: habías
él/ella/usted: había
nosotros: habíamos
vosotros: habíais
ellos/ellas/ustedes: habían
past participle:
For -ar verbs, replace -ar with -ado.
And, for -er and -ir verbs, replace -er/-ir with -ido

how to form present subjunctive
- Start with the “yo” form of present indicative tense of verb e.g
hablar → hablo
comer → como
vivir → vivo - Remove the “-o” ending from the “yo” form.
- Add the opposite vowel endings:
For -ar verbs: use -e, -es, -e, -emos, -éis, -en.
For -er and -ir verbs: use -a, -as, -a, -amos, -áis, -an.
