A
typically patient > 60 yrs
onset usually rapid < 1 month
headache
visual disturbances
jaw claudication
tender, palpable temporal artery
overlap features with polymyalgia rheumatic i.e. morning stiffness in proximal limbs
lethargy, depression, weight loss, night sweats

investigations to confirm diagnosis of temporal arteritis ?
A
ESR (> 50 mm/hr)
CRP raised
temporal artery biopsy

treatment for temporal arteritis ?
A
high dose prednisolone
(should have dramatic response)
urgent ophthalmology review
