Anatomy Flashcards
Where do the cranial nerve exit the brainstem?
I, II, III, IV - midbrain
V, VI, VII, VIII - pons
IX, X, XI, XII - medulla
Where is broca’s area located?
Between Prefrontal cortex and premotor cortex
Where is wenicke’s area located?
Temporal lobe
Function of pineal gland in brainstem?
Melatonin secretion, circadian rhythm
Function of superior colliculi in brain stem
Eye movements (eyes are above ears)
Function of inferior colliculi in brainstem?
Hearing
Nerve innervation of stapedius ?
Facial
Nerve innervation of stapedius ?
Facial
Nerve innervation of tensor tymapni?
Trigeminal (dampening of sounds)
Muscles of mastication
3 M’s
Temporalis
Mastoid
Medial pterygoid
Where does the spinal cord end? Where does CSF end? Where is an LP performed?
Spinal cord ends at L1-L2
CSF ends at S2 (Subarachnoid Space where CSF lies ends at S2)
LP between L3-L5 to keep the cord alive
Structures you pass through when performing an LP?
(SILy to not know this)
Skin
Fascia
Supraspinatous ligament
Interspinous ligament
Ligamentum flavum
Epidural space
Dura mater
Arachnoid mater
Subarachnoid space (where CSF is)
Spinal tract responsible for pain and temperature?
Spinothalamic
Soinal tract responsible for voluntary movements
Corticospinal
Spinal tract responsible for vibration, pressure, proprioception, fine touch
Dorsal column
Course of the spinothalamic tract
Dorsal horn, synapses in dorsal horn, travels up anterior horn, through medulla to thalamus
Course of dorsal colum
Travels up dorsal horn to medulla, synapses in medulla, crosses over to anteriomedial horn, travels up to thalamus
Course of corticospinal tract
Travels to medulla from motor cortex, crosses to lateral horn, synapses in anterior horn and exits
Where does spinothalamic tract synapse?
Spinal cord - dorsal horn
Where does the dorsal column synapse
Dorsal horn of medulla
Where does the corticospinal tract synapse
Anterior horn of spinal cord
nerve root of tibial nerve
L3-S3
nerve root of femoral nerve
L2-L4
nerve root of genitofemoral nerve
L1-L2
what artery supplies broca’s area
superior branch of the left middle cerebral artery
(broca’s area found in left frontal lobe)
structure affected in internuclear ophthalmoplegia
medial longitudinal fasciculus
pudendal nerve roots
S2-S4
nerve root of sciatic nerve
L4-L5, S1-S3
