Temperature And Enzyme Activity Flashcards
Describe the effect of temperature on enzyme activity and why:
As the temperature increases the rate of ensyme activity increases. This is because an increase in temperature means more kinetic energy. More, faster movements causes more collisions between the ensyme and substrate. This causes a higher rate if reaction.
After the optimum temperature, why does the enzyme activity suddenly decrease?
They lose their shape because the active sites atoms that make it up start to vibrate too much changing its structure. This process is called dentaturisation and because the substrate cannot fit into the enzyme anymore as its shape has changed the rate of enzyme activity decreases.
What is meant by the optimum temperature
The temperature at which the reaction happens fastest.
