Cells Flashcards
All things are made of what?
Cells
Give 2 examples of eukaryotic cells
Animals and plant cells are eukaryotic
What single cell organism is a procaryotic cell?
Bacteria
Name all the parts of an animal cell
Nucleus, mitocondria, rhibosome, cell membrane, cytoplasm
Name the things that all Eukaryotic cells have
Cell mambrane, cytoplasm and genetic material enclosed in a nucleus.
What is the role of a nucleus in an animal cell?
The nucleus controlls all the ativities of the cell and is surrounded by the nuclear membrane.
What is the role of the cytoplasm in an animal cell?
The cytoplasm is a liquid gell in which the organelles are suspended and where most of the chemical reactions needed for life tke place.
What is the role of the cell membrane in an animal cell?
The cell membrane controlls what goes in and out of the cell.
What is the role of the mitochondria in an animal cell?
The mitochondria are small structures in the cytoplasm where aerobic respiration takes place realeasing energy for the cell.
What is the role of the ribosomes in an animal cell?
Thr ribosomes it the site of protein synthesis, making all the proteins needed in the cell.
How do plant cells make their own food?
Through photosynthesis
What is a plant cells cell wall made of?
Cellulose
What do chloroplasts do?
Chloroplasts are green cells that most plant cell contains. They are green because they contain clorophyll which absorbs light so the plant can make food by photosynthesis
What is the permanent vacuole and what does it do?
The large permanent vacuole is a space in the cytoplasm filled with cell sap. This is important for keeping the cell rigid to support the plant.
Name all the parts in a plant cell:
Cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, mitochondria, chlorophyll, large permanent vacuole, ribosomes
What do plasmids do in a bacteria cell?
They carry genes that are usefull and pass them to other bacteria cells.
What does the single strand of DNA do in a bacteria cell?
Carries DNA.
What does the flagellum do in a bacteria cell?
Helps the cell in movement
What does the slime capsule do in a bacteria cell?
It protects the cell from physical and chemical attacks
What does the plasma membrane do in a bacteria cell?
The plasma membrane regulates the transport of materials entering and exiting the cell.
What does the cell wall do in a becteria cell?
confer the characteristic cell shape and provide the cell with mechanical protection.
What does a mitochondria do in a bacteria cell?
Energy production.
