Q

process of constructing a temperature scale

A

1) choose an appropriate thermometric substance which have physical properties which vary continuously and linearly with temperature
- eg volume of a fixed mass of a liquid / electrical resistance of wire (resistance thermometer) / electromotive force (thermocouple)
2) calibrate the thermometer by choosing two fixed points and recording the values of properties
3) set up the scale: divide the interval between two fixed points into a suitable number of equal divisions
