dynamic forces π¦ Flashcards
newtonβs first law of motion
object will continue in its state of rest or uniform motion
newtonβs second law of motion
when a resultant force acts on a mass, the object will accelerate in the direction of the resultant force: f = ma
newtonβs third law of motion
if body A acts on body B, body B exerts an equal and opposite body A
what is friction?
friction is the contact force which tends to oppose motion between two surfaces in contact
what is terminal velocity?
the point where air resistance exactly balances the weight
process of skydiving!
1) the moment the skydiver slides out, the only force acting on him is his weight, with a downward acceleration of 10 m/sΒ²
2) as he falls, air resistance starts to increase and he falls downwards with a decreasing acceleration
3) air resistance continues to increase until he reaches terminal velocity and there is zero acceleration
4) skydiver opens his parachute. the large surface area gives rise to larger air resistance and skydiver decelerates
5) skydiver continues to slow down until air resistance exactly balances out his weight. a lower terminal velocity is reached and the skydiver continues to the ground at this lower constant velocity
