Temp Pathway Flashcards
Temp Receptor?
Thermoreceptors
- responds to change in temp (not absolute temp)
- Non-nociceptive temps
Type of temp afferent axon?
Delta
C
-Same pathway as the “primary pain” pathway
The temp spinothalamic tract (STT) is located?
Anterolaterally in the spina cord
Located lateral in the brainstem
The temp primary somatosensory cortex is?
Sensory homunculus somatotopic organization
The primary somatosensory cortex inntervates?
Trunk, UE, hand, face represented superiorly and laterally on the postcentral gyrus.
LE represented medially on the posterior paracentral gyrus.
The thermoreceptor is stimulated and?
An AP is generated and propagates along an Delta or C first-order afferent neuron (whose soma is in a DRG).
Central axon terminates in the dorsal horn of the entering spinal cord segment.
The first-order afferent synapses with?
Second-order neuron in the dorsal horn second-order neuron crosses the spinal cord to the contralateral STT travels up the STT to the VPL nucleus of the thalamus.
The second-order neuron does?
Synapses with third-order neuron in the VPL nucleus of the thalamus third order neuron goes to the primary somatosensory cortex in the parietal lobe and temperature change perception occurs.
