Muscle and Joint receptors Flashcards
What are Tendon - Golgi Tendon Organ
Within tendons of striated skeletal muscles near the musculotendinous junction Senses changes in: -Muscle/tendon tension -Muscle contraction -Extreme of stretch -Similar to Ruffini Endings
Muscle - Muscle Spindle
Provides information about change in muscle length and rate of change in muscle length.
Important for the regulation and maintenance of muscle tone
Muscle - Muscle Spindle - Intrafusal
Fibers within each muscle spindle
-Distributed in parallel amongst the skeletal muscle extrafusal fibers.
What are the two different types of receptor endings within the muscle spindle?
- Annulospiral (Primary) ending
- Flower-spray (secondary) endings
What do the annulospiral endings wrap around?
the middle of the intrafusal fibers
Where are the flower-spray endings?
One on either side of the annulospiral ending
Joint receptors are found in?
joint capsules and ligaments
Non-proprioceptors
Nociceptors
- Not proprioceptors (tissue damage)
- Muscles, tendons, joint capsules and ligaments
Thermoreceptors may also exist in muscles, but not yet confirmed
