Conscious Proprioception Pathway Flashcards

1
Q

What is proprioception?

A

Position and movement sense

Monitors position of muscle, tendon and joints which serves to guide movement

Two types:
Conscious
Unconscious

Q

What does a loss of proprioception?

A

Sensory ataxia

  • Uncoordinated movement
  • Cerebrum and cerebrum lack sensory feedback about body position and rate of movement
  • Worsens when eyes closed to due to inability to compensate with vision

Q

Dorsal column-medial lemniscus system is?

A

Same pathway as light touch

  • Information travels in dorsal column in the spinal cord
  • In the brainstem, the information travels up the medial lemniscus
