Conscious Proprioception Pathway Flashcards
1
Q
What is proprioception?
A
Position and movement sense
Monitors position of muscle, tendon and joints which serves to guide movement
Two types:
Conscious
Unconscious
2
Q
What does a loss of proprioception?
A
Sensory ataxia
- Uncoordinated movement
- Cerebrum and cerebrum lack sensory feedback about body position and rate of movement
- Worsens when eyes closed to due to inability to compensate with vision
3
Q
Proprioception receptors?
A
Joint receptors Muscle spindles -Annulosprial endings -Flower Spray endings -Golgi Tendon Organs
4
Q
Proprioception afferent axons?
A
Type Ia
Type Ib
Type II (same size as Beta)
5
Q
Conscious proprioception pathways are?
A
Spinal cord
-Dorsal column
Brainstem
-Medial lemniscus
6
Q
Dorsal column-medial lemniscus system is?
A
Same pathway as light touch
- Information travels in dorsal column in the spinal cord
- In the brainstem, the information travels up the medial lemniscus
