TEMA 14 - PHYLYM CILIOPHORA Flashcards
Types of protozoa
This phylum encompasses all the protozoa that use cilia as locomotory organs, two types of nuclei;a macronucleus and a micronucleus. Parasites can divide by binary division and also by conjugation.
Morphological characteristics of Balantidium coli- Trophozoites
It has triohozoites and cysts. The trophozoie is the largest human protozoa, it has all its body covered by cillia, which provide a rapid movement. It presents a big opening, called cytostome . In the opposie side, we find a small openning, cytopigium. Mcronucleus very ig and kidney-shaped. It has two food vaculoes and two contractile vacules.
Cytostome
It is a ig opening in one side of the body of Balantidiu coli, called cytopigium-.
Cyptopigium
It works as an anus or excretory pore, it is an small opening in Balandium coli.
Cysts of Balantidium coli.
They are very big, imilar in size to helminth egges. They havea double wall and both micro and macronuleus, only the macronucleus is visible.
