TEMA 12 - FAMILY SARCOCYSTIDAE, SUBFAMILY SARCOCYSTINAE Flashcards
Tachyzoite
a
Psudocysts
b
Bradyzoite
c
Infectant forms
Tachyzoite, Bradyzoite and Isosporoid cyst
Life cycle
d
Tpe of cycle
Di-heteroxenous cycle
Definitive hosts
Carnivorous or humans beings, usually predators
Intermediate hosts
Herbivores
How is released
The DH releases in faeces sporulate or mature oocyts to the external environment
Species
Sarcocystis hominis (DH cattle) Sarcocystis suihominis (DH pigs)
Morphological characteristics
Sporulated oocysts 2x4
Symptomatology
Humans are asymptomatics. Abdominal pain, diarrhea or sickness may appear if there is infiltration in lamina propia.
When paraistes enter the IH, they migrate ultil they reach organs and they form tachyzoites. This migration process manifest itself with petechia, edema and tissue necrosis. Once it is transformed intro sarcoctsts and. sttle down in muslces, cells and brain; mytiositis, anemia, fever, loss of appetite and death (obtruction the cardiac muscle tissue or by toxin poisoning)
Diagnosis
Faces of oocysts or sporocysts.Western Blot. In the IH, the only think that we can do is to look for the presence of sarcocystis by looking necrosis mainly in tissues and brain.
