"Tell Me Questions" Flashcards
Tell me how you would check that the headlights and taillights are working
- operate switch (turn on ignition if necessary)
- explain that you would walk around the vehicle to check they’re working
Tell me how you would check that the brakes are working before starting a journey
- explain that immediately after starting engine and setting off, the brakes should be tested in a safe area by applying them firmly
- vehicle should not pull to one side and brakes should not feel spongy or slack
Tell me how you would know if there was a problem with the anti-lock braking system
- warning light should illuminate if there is a problem
Tell me how you would make sure that your head restraint is correctly adjusted so it provides best protection in the event of a crash
- head restraint should be adjusted so that the rigid part of the head restraint is at least as high as the top of ears/eyes- and as close to back of head as is comfortable
- (some restraints might not be adjustable)
Tell me how you would check tyres to ensure they have sufficient tread depth and their general condition is safe to use on roads
- there should be not cuts/ bulges anywhere in tread or in sidewall
- minimum of 1.6 mm of tread depth across central 3/4 of breadth of tyre and around entire outer circumference
- tyre tread depth gauge can give an accurate measure of tread depth
Tell me where you would find the information for recommended tyre pressures for this car and how tyre pressure should be checked
- explain that correct tyre pressure can be found in the manufacturers guide or vehicle handbook
- (often printed on label on inside of fuel filler lid or inside one of front door frames)
- explain that you would use a reliable pressure gauge- checking and adjusting pressure when tyres are cold
- would also need to check and adjust spare tyres pressure and remember to refit all of the valve caps
